Destination Weddings

According to Levent, destination weddings are becoming even more popular because weddings in the United States are so expensive and there are exotic locations where the wedding is practically free.
The LeBlanc Spa in Cancun, Mexico, the El Dorado Royale in the Mayan Riviera and the Riu Ocho Rios Hotel in Jamaica are three spots where destination weddings are a bargain compared with the cost of a wedding in the U.S.
“While an average wedding in the U.S. can cost from $30,000 to $40,000, we are doing destination weddings and receptions for the cost of the stay,” Levent says. “Even if you add in all the extras for your wedding, it will be no more than $5,000.”
Known as the “Destination Wedding Guru,” Levent planned the St. Lucia dream wedding for season three “Biggest Loser” finalists, Amy Hildreth and Marty Wolff, and she writes a weekly blog for Brides.com. She says her expertise in booking destination weddings can help couples plan the ultimate wedding for less, as long as the couple is not in a rush.
“Because destination weddings are becoming so popular, couples need to plan at least a year and a half in advance,” Levent says. “I am already working on 2010.”
Another option for honeymoons and destination weddings is a cruise, especially on the Freedom Class Royal Caribbean cruise ships, Strait says. “The new cruise ships offer so many choices for things to do, including rock-climbing walls, ice skating rinks, basketball courts, a jogging and inline skating track, a two-story spa, a water park, a surf park and a night club. A balcony room, including all meals, except alcohol, is around $2,000 to $2,500, and you can relax on your own private balcony,” Strait says. “It makes another nice option for having a really nice honeymoon.”
